Message of June 19, 2003: “My children, your families also belongs of Jesus. You are His family. My children, be at ease with Jesus. Behave with Him as if you were with your best friend, your closest, a family member. Don't be different than you are before Him. He knows you better than anyone. He knows your weaknesses and He knows what you are like. He not only likes you, but he loves, loves, loves each of you very much. Jesus is in you. Jesus always forgives the one who loves him and He never forgets the one who has faith. Trust Him, love Him! Love Jesus more. It's no use just having faith and believing. It is necessary to do the will of God as well. Live and put the Gospel into practice. Do not despise, but fulfill every verse of the Bible. Otherwise, what good is it for them to come to Mass every Sunday? Read an excerpt from the Gospel every day and not just at Mass on Sundays. Jesus is very happy that you have come. Satan is furious because of this procession. Satan didn't want you to come, but I called you. Protect yourselves from the dragon with the Rosary in hand, my children! And receive Jesus in the Communion. Receive the Communion with love. How many do not go to Mass... How many do not receive Communion... How many do not live the Gospel, but live a life of sin... How many pray the Our Father, but do not live what they say in it... How many indifference with the Eucharist... How many receive the Communion in an undignified way... How much irreverence in the churches... How many people enter the church with indecent clothes as if Jesus were not a King... How much lack of respect... It is necessary to console Jesus, who is saddened by these sins. I came to appear because my people need to be converted. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t show up here. Jesus loves the children. Take the children to Jesus. May they all become aware of Him as soon as possible. Blessed be God, my beloved children! Be like them: pure and simple. Don't be liars or proud. Have a lot of charity, humility and love in your heart. In this procession, Jesus blesses these neighborhoods, these blocks, these streets, these houses and, above all, your residents and your families. May peace and love reign here. Where peace and love are, there will also be Jesus. But where the quarrels and hatred are, there will be the devil. God wants to be more worshiped by his children. Worship him, praise him. With your prayers and your love, you comforted him from the offenses of this world. With your adoration, you placed flowers on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which today is surrounded by thorns. Prayer of Consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
“O Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, in this time of trial we turn to you. As our Mother, you love us and know us: no concern of our hearts is hidden from you. Mother of mercy, how often we have experienced your watchful care and your peaceful presence! You never cease to guide us to Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Yet we have strayed from that path of peace. We have forgotten the lesson learned from the tragedies of the last century, the sacrifice of the millions who fell in two world wars. We have disregarded the commitments we made as a community of nations. We have betrayed peoples’ dreams of peace and the hopes of the young. We grew sick with greed, we thought only of our own nations and their interests, we grew indifferent and caught up in our selfish needs and concerns. We chose to ignore God, to be satisfied with our illusions, to grow arrogant and aggressive, to suppress innocent lives and to stockpile weapons. We stopped being our neighbour’s keepers and stewards of our common home. We have ravaged the garden of the earth with war and by our sins we have broken the heart of our heavenly Father, who desires us to be brothers and sisters. We grew indifferent to everyone and everything except ourselves. Now with shame we cry out: Forgive us, Lord!
Holy Mother, amid the misery of our sinfulness, amid our struggles and weaknesses, amid the mystery of iniquity that is evil and war, you remind us that God never abandons us, but continues to look upon us with love, ever ready to forgive us and raise us up to new life. He has given you to us and made your Immaculate Heart a refuge for the Church and for all humanity. By God’s gracious will, you are ever with us; even in the most troubled moments of our history, you are there to guide us with tender love.
We now turn to you and knock at the door of your heart. We are your beloved children. In every age you make yourself known to us, calling us to conversion. At this dark hour, help us and grant us your comfort. Say to us once more: “Am I not here, I who am your Mother?” You are able to untie the knots of our hearts and of our times. In you we place our trust. We are confident that, especially in moments of trial, you will not be deaf to our supplication and will come to our aid.
That is what you did at Cana in Galilee, when you interceded with Jesus and he worked the first of his signs. To preserve the joy of the wedding feast, you said to him: “They have no wine” (Jn 2:3). Now, O Mother, repeat those words and that prayer, for in our own day we have run out of the wine of hope, joy has fled, fraternity has faded. We have forgotten our humanity and squandered the gift of peace. We opened our hearts to violence and destructiveness. How greatly we need your maternal help!
Therefore, O Mother, hear our prayer.
Star of the Sea, do not let us be shipwrecked in the tempest of war.
Ark of the New Covenant, inspire projects and paths of reconciliation.
Queen of Heaven, restore God’s peace to the world.
Eliminate hatred and the thirst for revenge, and teach us forgiveness.
Free us from war, protect our world from the menace of nuclear weapons.
Queen of the Rosary, make us realize our need to pray and to love.
Queen of the Human Family, show people the path of fraternity.
Queen of Peace, obtain peace for our world.
O Mother, may your sorrowful plea stir our hardened hearts. May the tears you shed for us make this valley parched by our hatred blossom anew. Amid the thunder of weapons, may your prayer turn our thoughts to peace. May your maternal touch soothe those who suffer and flee from the rain of bombs. May your motherly embrace comfort those forced to leave their homes and their native land. May your Sorrowful Heart move us to compassion and inspire us to open our doors and to care for our brothers and sisters who are injured and cast aside.
Holy Mother of God, as you stood beneath the cross, Jesus, seeing the disciple at your side, said: “Behold your son” (Jn 19:26). In this way he entrusted each of us to you. To the disciple, and to each of us, he said: “Behold, your Mother” (v. 27). Mother Mary, we now desire to welcome you into our lives and our history. At this hour, a weary and distraught humanity stands with you beneath the cross, needing to entrust itself to you and, through you, to consecrate itself to Christ. The people of Ukraine and Russia, who venerate you with great love, now turn to you, even as your heart beats with compassion for them and for all those peoples decimated by war, hunger, injustice and poverty.
Therefore, Mother of God and our Mother, to your Immaculate Heart we solemnly entrust and consecrate ourselves, the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine. Accept this act that we carry out with confidence and love. Grant that war may end and peace spread throughout the world. The “Fiat” that arose from your heart opened the doors of history to the Prince of Peace. We trust that, through your heart, peace will dawn once more. To you we consecrate the future of the whole human family, the needs and expectations of every people, the anxieties and hopes of the world.
Through your intercession, may God’s mercy be poured out on the earth and the gentle rhythm of peace return to mark our days. Our Lady of the “Fiat”, on whom the Holy Spirit descended, restore among us the harmony that comes from God. May you, our “living fountain of hope”, water the dryness of our hearts. In your womb Jesus took flesh; help us to foster the growth of communion. You once trod the streets of our world; lead us now on the paths of peace. Amen.”

Biography of Blessed Alexandrina Maria da Costa
The life and messages of Jesus to Blessed Alexandrina of Balasar, Portugal, have touched many people around the world and made more and more devotees of the Eucharist. His Sanctuary in Balasar is the second most visited in Portugal after the Sanctuary of Fatima.
Birth: Alexandrina Maria da Costa was born on March 30, 1904 in Póvoa de Varzim. She made her First Holy Communion at age 7 years. She was always a very pure girl, humble and devoted.
Spinal problems: At the age of 14, on the Easter Saturday in 1918, Alexandrina was at home with her sister Deolinda and another young woman. Some men invaded the place to try to sin against chastity. In defense of her virginity, Alexandrina preferred to throw herself out of the window so as not to fall into sin. Because of that, she got serious back problems that got worse every day. Until she was 19 years old, she still managed to walk with great difficulty to go to church. But the paralysis worsened until April 14, 1925, at age 21, when she was permanently bedridden for the rest of her life.
Victim for sinners: Alexandrina spent the last years of her life in the bed of her bedroom, in her house. In the beginning, she prayed for her healing and to become a missionary. But in 1928, she saw that her vocation was to be victim for sinners and to share the sufferings of Jesus Crucified. Alexandrina began to offer herself day and night to God as a victim. She prayed and sanctified herself more and more over the years. Despite so much suffering, she was always happy, transmitting peace with her beautiful smile.
Devotion for the Tabernacles: From her room, Alexandrina worshiped Jesus present in all the Tabernacles on Earth, always trying to keep him company even from there. Jesus asked her it so many times.
Charity: Despite staying in bed, Alexandrina always helped people who came to her with conversations and trying to get what they needed talking to other people.
Visions of Jesus: In her bed, Alexandrina started to have visions of Jesus and they happened throughout her life. Sometimes Our Lady also appeared to him. Jesus appeared to him in various ways and made him vent his pains for the sins of humanity. Jesus appeared to him wounded, sometimes glorious, sometimes with his Heart, sometimes in his Passion. Jesus told her messages with repeated appeals and outbursts, but messages of great benefit to those who want to imitate Alexandrina and the victim souls. Jesus always told Alexandrina to continue offering herself for sinners and to console his Heart.
Living the Passion of Christ: From 1938, every Friday, she lived the sufferings of the Passion of Christ. She had frequent and repeated visions of the Passion where she immersed herself in the sufferings of Jesus and suffered deeply with Him for sinners. She suffered from many pains in her body, but mainly, deep agonies in her soul.
Phrases of Blessed Alexandrina: She used to say many beautiful phrases after Jesus gave her his messages, phrases of great love and surrender. Here are some:
- Jesus, I am Your victim. My motto is to suffer, to love and to repair. This room is my Calvary.
- My Jesus, I'm ready for anything. Do not let me offend You. Don't leave me alone. I give You my heart to serve and love You, to repair Your Divine Heart. I give with all my poor and little strength.
- Nothing I am. Nothing I have. Nothing I can. Nothing I know. I'm just sin and miseries.
- Thank you, Jesus, for my cross. Thank you, Blessed Mother. I love my cross and hug it.
- You are, oh blessed cross, the immense treasure with which Jesus enriched me. I want you, I hug you, I want to be stuck in you and all thorns surrounded! For Jesus, I want to live wounded and on the Altar with Him I want to be always immolated!
- My dear Jesus, I love You. I adore You. In your Tabernacles, I want to dwell, O my Jesus.
- Jesus, don't spare my body. Don't spare my soul. But make me spare the pain of your Heart. Spare the souls and bodies from punishment.
- Jesus, I want to visit you and adore you in your Tabernacles to heal your Wounds that are so alive. I embrace you on the Crucifix. I want to dry your tears.
- Jesus, place your Heart surrounded by thorns in my Heart when you are most hurt. Jesus, my love, I suffer for your love. I suffer to give you souls.
- Jesus, you call me to carry the Cross and I will go. Come with me. I only ask for your help and help of the Blessed Mother.
- Jesus I love you. I wanna Love You. Give me ways to love you. I always want to be in the school of love. Give me limitless confidence.
- Blessed Mother, don't abandon me, don't let me grieve Jesus. Help us to carry our cross with the greatest love, the greatest perfection.
- Jesus, I'm your victim, always your victim. I wish you everything you want. All for the salvation of souls. I want to live only for you and for souls.
- Thank you Jesus, thank you Blessed Mother. Thank you on Earth and thank you in Heaven.
- Jesus, increase the love in me, only love.
Feeding only on the Eucharist: Alexandrina spent the last 13 years of her life feeding only on the Eucharist. She asked Jesus to be able to die on a Thursday, a day dedicated to the Holy Eucharist, and on a Marian feast for the love of Our Lady. Her wish was granted: she died on October 13, 1955, a Thursday, aged 51, and also the anniversary of the last apparition of Our Lady in Fatima, and now also the day of her liturgical feast.
Death and veneration: On October 12, 1955: Alexandrina said:
- I want the Heaven. I don't regret leaving Earth! All darkness of the soul is over. All sufferings of the soul are over. For me, everything is the sun, it's life, it's everything, it's God!
At 15:00, Before receiving the Extreme Unction, she asked for forgiveness from her mother, sister, Confessor, Pastor, Doctors, cousins, friends and the servant. And she said:
- I suffered everything in this life for souls. I consumed myself. I grinded myself in this bed. I gave my blood for souls. I forgive everyone, I forgive, I forgive. They were instruments for my good. Jesus, forgive the whole world!
After Extreme Unction, Alexandrina exclaimed:
- I'm so glad to go to Heaven! What clarity! It's all light! Darkness has disappeared!
And she prayed:
- Oh Jesus, oh love, oh Divine Spouse of my soul, in life, I just tried to give you the greatest glory, I want at the time of my death, to make you an act of resignation. My beloved Jesus, if in this act I give greater glory to the Holy Trinity, I gladly submit to your eternal plans. I only want to implore, from your mercy, your Reign of love, the conversion of sinners, the salvation of the dying and relief of the souls of Purgatory. My God, as I always consecrated my life to you, I now offer you the end of it, resignedly accepting death, accompanied by the circumstances that give you greater glory.
Afterwards, Alexandrina then received, in angelic calm, the Sacrament of the Eucharist and said to the people present:
- Don't cry, because I will go to Heaven. Don't cry, because I will go to Heaven!
On October 13, 1955: At 6 am, she said:
- My God, I love you! I'm all your!
In the morning, at 8 o'clock, she received the last Communion. This morning, she was visited by several people and told a group:
- Don't sin! The world is worthless. This says it all. Pray the Rosary every day.
She said for a visit:
- Goodbye, to Heaven!
At 11 am she said to the Doctor:
- I'm very happy because I'm going to Heaven.
At 11:35 am, Alexandrina asked them to pray the Office of Agony. She kissed the Crucifix and the Medal of Our Lady of Sorrows in the hands of her spiritual director, Father Mariano Pinho. And she prayed:
- Holy Trinity, in your Heart I commend my spirit...
Alexandrina smiled sweetly and surrendered her soul to God... It was 19:52 minutes. Later, thousands of people passed in front of her body and kissed her.
Beatification: Alexandrina Maria da Costa was beatified on April 25, 2004 and devotees eagerly await her canonization. The messages Jesus gave to Blessed Alexandrina of Balasar were many. The messages of Jesus to Blessed Alexandrina are a strong invitation to all to console Him for the sins of the world today and for more devotion to the Eucharist. Everyone can accept these messages for themselves and imitate Blessed Alexandrina in her immense love and adoration.

Biography of Saint Clare of Assisi

The beautiful life of poverty of Saint Clare of Assisi:
Birth: Saint Clare (born Chiara Offreduccio) was born on July 16, 1193. His father Favarone and his mother Ortolana were from a noble and very wealthy family. They owned a lot of property and lived in a big and luxurious house, but they were also Catholics and believed in God. When her mother was pregnant and prayed before a Crucifix in church for the child's birth, she heard a voice say, “Don't be afraid. You will give the world a light that will shine brighter than daylight. That's why the girl will be called Clare.” And Clare was born, a very pretty girl, with long blond hair. As a child, Clare loved to pray and listen attentively to all of her mother's Catholic teachings. She went to Holy Mass with great devotion and always prayed before the Crucifix, a devotion she will have for a lifetime. When Clare went out with the maids and little friends, she always took lots of coins, food and goodies from the house and gave it to the beggars and the poor with a beautiful smile that enchanted everyone.
Vocation: During adolescence, Clare always prayed a lot every day in her room, until long hours, and decided to consecrate her virginity to God and go to a convent. But her father was thinking of marrying her off to some rich young man from a noble family. She was very beautiful and many young people serenaded her in front of her house, but she never showed any interest in getting married. His love and trust in God grew more and more. From the windows of her house, Clare saw the many poor and beggars in Italy at that time. She did not accept having that rich life while many were still poor. The house was very big, a real castle full of servants. Underneath the expensive clothes and jewelry that the family forced her to wear, Clare put on belts with sharp edges and thorns and offered them as penance in honor of the Passion of Jesus. Clare's father let her follow the vocation, but he died. The uncles still though of a wedding for her.
Francis of Assisi: When Clare was 16 years old, the young Francis of Assisi was 28 years old. It was around this age that Francis was converted and began to preach in the city of Assisi about a life with more poverty and less luxury. Many thought he was exaggerated or crazy, but Clare didn't. She sensed that he was a young man of God and admired him. She came to Francis and said: "I want to live the same life, the same prayer and above all, the same poverty." She was drawn to leave her rich and luxurious home to live in the poverty and simplicity of a convent.
Escape from home: On Palm Sunday, March 19, 1212, at night, when everyone was asleep, Clare ran away from her home and was received with great joy by Francis and his brothers in the small church Porciuncula. Francis cut his long blond hair as a sign of consecration to God and gave him a thick cloth tunic tied with the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Clare went to live for a few days at the Benedictine monastery in the nearby town of Panzo. The uncles where enraged. They search her and finds her in the chapel. Clare was clinging to the foot of the Altar. They pulled her so hard and tore off her veil and saw her shaved head. They decided to leave her and thought that she would come home someday, which never happened. Agnes, the Clare's sister, 15 years old, also fled. When relatives try to take her by force, Clare prays and she becomes heavy that they can't carry her and decide to leave her.
Convent in San Damian: Clare went to the city of San Damian, near Assisi, to a poor house adjacent to the chapel. There it became her convent. Other young women arrived and became nuns. A few years later, also her sister Beatriz and her mother Ortolana after becoming a widow, all because of the teachings of Clare and Francis. They became known as “Poor Ladies”, now called “Poor Clare Nuns”. They were a comfort to the city. They attended the people and prayed for those who asked, giving words of comfort.
Humility and love: Clare was appointed abbess of the convent by Francis. Despite holding this position of superior in the convent for 40 years, she was like a mother of all sisters and extremely humble. Clare always helped herself to the table last. Every day, she always helped with the simplest tasks like sweeping, cleaning the floor, bathing the sick, making bandages, washing clothes, and everything else necessary. Clare was once washing the feet of a sick sister and this sister accidentally tapped Clare's nose with her foot. Clare didn't get angry, but she gave a beautiful smile. She always liked to go into every room to see if all the nuns were warmly dressed. She was always willing to give up her coat for those who needed it.
Poverty of the convent: The convent in which they lived was extremely simple and poor. Clare did not allow any luxury. They made towels and other objects, and received donations from people. Sometimes they received hard breads and old foods, but Clare always thanked God. Despite being poor, they always helped the poor who knocked on the convent door. Invite the poor and the marginalized. It was Clara's invitation. Throughout her life, miracles always happened with the bread, oil and other foods that yielded and inexplicably appeared at the time of distribution. A young woman told Clare that she had chests full of jewels and pearls. She said: “This is all fleeting. There is a Husband who loves you so much more. His name is Jesus Christ, who died for us on the Cross.”
Devotion to the Word of God: Clare confessed with much regret and tears. She received the Eucharist so fervently that her body seemed to tremble. She was full of delicacy, sweetness, calm and patience. All who knew her claimed to perceive in her a “heavenly peace”. She listened to all the priests and preachers of God's Word with extreme devotion, no matter who she was. Throughout her life, Clare was concerned with practicing the Word of God in every moment, in every second, in all the smallest and greatest acts.
Clare secures the Monstrance: In 1240, enemies invaded the city and placed ladders on the walls to invade Clare's convent. The sisters were terrified, but Clare prayed, took the Monstrance with the Consecrated Host and the stairs used by the enemies to invade the convent fell inexplicably and they fled.
Writings of Saint Clare of Assisi: She wrote: “Jesus is the bridge between the One who can do everything and the creatures who need everything. Be a bridge that connects those who have plenty to those who lack so much. Our fatigue here is brief. Eternal is the prize. Do not be misled by the rumors of the world that pass by like a shadow. Don't lose your mind with the empty images of the deceiving world. Cover your ears to the whistles of hell and, strong, break its assaults. Strive to acquire that perfection for which the Spirit of God has destined you. Entrust yourself to poor Christ. As He made Himself an object of contempt, so will you become an object of contempt in the eyes of the world to follow His example. Ignite your heart with the desire to imitate him. If you suffer with Him, with Him you will reign. If you cry with Him, you will rejoice with Him. If you die with Him on the Cross of the tribulation, you will find Him a heavenly mansion in the splendors of the Saints. And your name, glorious among men, will be inscribed in the Book of Life. Don't let bitterness and discouragement envelop you.”
Miracles: Clare gave the entire huge fortune of her father's inheritance to the poor. She kept nothing for herself or even for the convent. She prayed with such union with God that sometimes the sisters saw a light near her. On another occasion, Sister Agnes saw the Child Jesus in Clare's lap. Another day, Sister Francisca saw the Child Jesus resting his head on Clare's shoulders. A demon-possessed woman said, "The prayers of this saint burn us." Francis died at the age of 44, when Clare was 32, and she accepted his Canonization.
Diseases and crosses: Clare lived until the age of 60, always with many illnesses, but enduring everything with patience and uniting with her illnesses to the Crucified One. Once, when she was bedridden and unable to go to Mass, she saw all Holy Mass on the wall and described it to her sisters, which is why she is the Patron of television. At the end of life, she was extremely weak and suffered a lot before she died. Saint Clare passed away on August 11, 1253. She gave the sisters the last advices especially for the life of poverty and to pray in honor of the Wounds of Jesus. Sister Benvinda had a vision of Our Lady and many Saints and Angels entering the room where Saint Clare died.
Canonization: Saint Clare of Assisi was canonized in 1255, just 2 years after her death, as her brother Francis. Her body is found incorrupt (Photo) to this day. Many convents of the Poor Clare Nuns were founded all over the world and still radiate his light and holiness today. The sister of Saint Clare, Agnes, helped found other convents. She died a few months after Clare and was canonized like her, today Saint Agnes of Assisi.

Biography of Saint Bernadette Soubirous
Life and details of Saint Bernadette Soubirous, the girl who saw Our Lady in Lourdes.
Birth: Marie Bernarde Soubirous, better known by Bernadette, was born on January 7, 1844 at the Boly mill, near Lourdes. She was the daughter of François Soubirous and Louise Castérot. They had 9 children and Bernadette was the oldest. When Bernadette was 10 years old, the family was thrown out of the mill and had to live in a damp, musty dungeon that was the old jail in the place. They were very hungry. Sometimes they only had old loaves for a day's food for everyone, or not a loaf of bread at all. They made watery soups by cooking bones and meats collected from the garbage or received from friends. Despite this, parents and children very happy. The neighbor who lived upstairs in the house said he never heard any complaints from them about their lives. He heard the family pray together every day and the parents never argued.
Bernadette's faith: Bernadette was illiterate at the time of Our Lady's apparitions in Lourdes, she didn't even speak French, but only a dialect of that region. Afterwards she had little study, but we see that she had great wisdom in the words she said. In 1857, Bernadette went to live for a few months in her wet nurse's house to eat better. She worked there as a shepherd of the sheep. Bernadette only knew how to pray the Rosary and the invocation: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” She had returned to Lourdes in January 1858 to take First Communion at 14 years old. She hadn't done it before because of the jobs. She had difficulty memorizing the Catechism and the I believe. She didn't understand the mystery of the Holy Trinity, but she had great faith and love for the things of God.
Apparitions of Our Lady: The following month, from February 11th to July 16th, 1858, she had the 18 apparitions of Our Lady and she said: “If you only knew what I saw so beautiful there in that cave... If you only knew how Our Lady Lady is good... So beautiful! I cannot find any image of Our Lady beautiful after having seen the original. I will only go to Heaven if I am good and behave correctly. I will see Our Lady again in Heaven. It will be more beautiful.”
Bernadette with the people: After the apparitions, Bernadette's life changed completely. Thousands of people began to look for her in her home or wherever she was. She continued in the same way as always: very humble, simple and kind, but at the same time, very normal like all girls. She was very frank, sincere and transparent. She was much sought after by the poor, rich, religious, authorities, beggars and the sick. Despite this, she treated everyone in the same way, never differentiated or exalted anyone. She always attended everyone with good will and said: "I will pray for you." She never lost patience with so many visits and many reached graces with her prayers. To those who called her a saint, she said: “You are mistaken. I'm not a saint.” Although her family was poor, she never accepted money and asked for it to be given to the parish or sisters. Some treated her like a celebrity on the streets of Lourdes, but she didn't like that. Some people take photos of Bernadette and sell them for a franc each. She laughed and joked: "They sell the photos for more than I'm worth!"
Persecutions by authorities: Bernadette suffered many persecutions from the mayor and authorities of Lourdes because of the apparitions. He told her, "You here, you impudent?" She replied, "Yes sir, I'm here." He said, "We're going to put you in jail." She replied: "And let it be well locked, or I'll run away."
Bernadette as religious in Nevers: In 1866, at the age of 22, Bernadette left Lourdes and became a religious in the city of Nevers, France. She missed Lourdes and the grotto, but said: “We have little time in the world. We should use it well.” There were nuns who didn't like his natural, frank and sincere way and didn't realize his great holiness. Bernadette said: "I don't want to live a moment here without loving." The superior sisters did her several and suffered humiliations. Another sister said: “I had been at Nevers for three days, and I was amazed that I still didn't recognize who Bernadette was. The superior said: ‘Bernadette? Look at her by your side!’ I exclaimed, ‘That's it?’ Bernadette replied jokingly: 'It's true! I'm just it!’ And after that, we became very good friends.” Despite suffering so much, she was the most humorous and playful of all. She took care of the sick and the sacristy with great love and patience. After prayer, she counseled: “Anytime, sing:‘ With my Mother I will be.” She always asked the sisters to pray for her: "Pray for me, poor sinner, especially at the time of death." On the sisters correcting their faults: “But how? To receive the Bread of the strong so often and not be more courageous?”
Parental Death: When her mother died, she said, “My God, You wanted it! I accept the cup you give me. Blessed be her Name!" In her father's death, she told us: "I have always had a great devotion to the Agony of Our Savior. On Saturday afternoon, I prayed to Jesus in the Agony for all those who were going to die at that time, and it was precisely at the same moment that my father entered eternity. What a joy for me if I helped him!”
Phrases of Saint Bernadette: Some phrases of her great wisdom:
- I will always have enough health, but never enough love.
- The first movement does not belong to us, but the second belongs to us.
- Only Jesus as master. Only Jesus as wealth. Only Jesus as a friend.
- God speaks to the heart without any sound of words.
Prayers made by St. Bernadette: “Oh Jesus, please give me the bread of humility, the bread of obedience, the bread of charity, the bread of strength to break my will and melt it into yours. Give me the bread of patience to bear the pains my heart suffers. Give me the bread to see only You in everything and always." “I waited on you, Lord. Be my house of refuge, for you are my strength."
Illnesses and crosses: Bernadette suffered from asthma since childhood and offered everything for the conversion of sinners. She said: “The Virgin wants me to suffer. I need. Healing is not for me. The Good Lord knows why. I have to be a victim. I will bravely and generously carry the cross hidden in my heart. My weapons are prayer and sacrifice, which I will preserve until my last breath. Only then will the weapon of sacrifice fall, but the weapon of prayer will accompany me to Heaven, where it will be far more powerful than in this Land of exile.” In the convent, she will suffer from bone tuberculosis and a tumor in her knees that will cause her great pain. One sister related: “Bernadette had asthma attacks, coughing attacks that nearly broke her chest. Even vomiting blood and choking, she never let out any regrets, any complaints. She would just look at the Crucifix and say, ‘My Jesus.’ ”She was so sick that she received the Anointing of the Sick three times, surviving them all. After one of them, she joked: “I'm better, the Lord didn't want me. I went to His Door and He told me: ‘Go back! It's still too early!’” When she spent days in bed, she would say, “My occupation is to be sick. This bed and its white curtain is my white chapel." The sisters said, "It's not good to be Bernadette." On another occasion: "When the emotion is very strong, I remember the words of our Lord: 'It is I, do not be afraid.'”
Sign of the Cross with devotion: One day, Bernadette showed a sister that she was wrong with the
Sign of the Cross: “We must be careful, because doing the Sign of the Cross well means a lot.” The sisters said: “The way she did it the Sign of the Cross impressed us deeply. We tried several times to do the same, but we couldn't. She did it well because Our Lady made the Sign of the Cross at the first apparition. That stayed with Bernadette all her life.”
Last years: Her illnesses got worse in 1878 with a strong otitis that caused her a temporary deafness that caused her a lot of discomfort and the tumor in her bones that hurt a lot. She continued patiently. She prayed: "Oh Jesus! Oh Mary! Let all my comfort in this world consist in loving you and suffering for sinners. Oh Jesus, keep me under the banner of your Cross. May this Crucifix not only be in my eyes and in my chest, but in my heart, living in me. May I be a living Crucified One, transformed into him by union with the Eucharist, by meditation on your life and the deepest feelings of your Heart. I call souls, no for me, but for You, from the height of the Cross, where life and love unite me forever."
Death and canonization: In March 1879, Bernadette received the Anointing of the Sick for the fourth time and said: "I ask forgiveness for all the faults of Mother and all my sisters." In Holy Week, April 6-13, he said: “I'm all skinned up. I don't even have the strength to breathe." On April 16, 1879, she asked only for the Crucifix in her room: "This is enough for me." She looked at it and held it the entire time. But her strength was few and she drops the Crucifix. She asked them to tie the Crucifix to her chest and said: "My Jesus, how much I love you!" A sister told him, "You are on the Cross." Another sister present asked Our Lady to comfort her. Bernadette replied: “No, comfort, no, but strength and patience.” She was covered in sores on her back that she couldn't even lie down. She had to sleep sitting in an armchair and had immense pain throughout her body. It said: “I am being ground like a grain of wheat. My passion will last until death.” At three o'clock in the afternoon she gave a great cry: "My God!" The sisters began to pray the Rosary. Bernadette replied in a strong voice: "Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for me a sinner, poor sinner!" At 3 pm, like Jesus on Calvary, she said, "I am thirsty." She made a great Sign of the Cross, drank a few drops of water and bowed her head. She surrendered sweetly her soul at 35 and after 13 years in the convent.
Canonization: Saint Bernadette Soubirous was beatified in 1925 and canonized in 1933 by Pope Pius XI. Her body remains uncorrupted to this day. She is one of the most beautiful and as many say, she seems to be sleeping.

Biography of Saint Monica
The beautiful life of Saint Monica, wife and mother of St. Augustine:
Childhood: Saint Monica was born in Thagaste (present-day Souk Ahras, Algeria), Africa, in the year 331. As she is a very old Saint, little is known about her, usually what her son Saint Augustine wrote and told. But what is known is of great value and a huge example for everyone. Her parents were observant and fervent Catholics and instructed all their children in the faith well. Monica was also instructed by one of her housekeepers. She also corrected Monica and her sisters since childhood for any fault or failure they committed. Monica was always devoted to going to Holy Mass and she always prayed morning and night and helped the poor. She also enjoyed reading and praying the Psalms.
Temptation of wine: At home, Monica was given the task of serving wine to adults during meals. As she was still a child, she and the other girls were prohibited from drinking. But Monica fell into temptation and started drinking a little wine every day. And sipping more and more each day, she even had a drink. One of the maids knew that. One day, she fell out with Monica, and to humiliate her, she told everyone that she drank secretly and called her a great wine drinker. Monica was very embarrassed and decided never to fall into these temptations again.
Teenager and bride: Monica grew up a great young woman, always obedient to her parents, kind and helpful to everyone in the house. At that time, young women were married very early and their parents were already thinking of finding her a husband. It was always the fathers who chose the husbands for their daughters and they married around 12 to 18 years old and always with older men. Usually the husbands were close to 30 years old or more. Machismo was also great throughout the world and in that year of 340. Husbands ruled their wives a lot. Saint Paul said, "The husband that has no faith is sanctified by his wife." (1 Corinthians 7, 14) Monica's parents chose young Patricius as her husband. He was in his thirties, worked as a city decurion and owned some properties. Patricio was a pagan, that is, he had no religion. We don’t known why Monica's parents chose a pagan husband for her, who was so religious. The most likely is perhaps because he owned property and would guarantee him a more stable economic situation.
Marriage and mother-in-low: Monica accepted marriage as a mission given by God to her. She was a wife full of kindness and sweetness. The mother-in-law of Monica lived in the same house and was a very difficult person. In the first days, the mother-in-law didn't like Monica and was always irritated with her. But the worse her mother-in-law was, the more Monica loved her and pleased her as if nothing had happened. Some maids in the house also teased Monica and tried to make an ugly image of her to her husband Patricio. But Monica continually forgave and then the maids and her mother-in-law saw how kind she was and then changed completely with her. They then started to like Monica a lot and praised her a lot for her husband.
Patience with her husband: Patricius was of a proud, arrogant and impetuous character. But he had a good heart. He was kind to his wife, but in many problems, he lost his temper and got very nervous and angry. But in difficult times, Monica didn't argue with her husband and didn't lose her temper, even listening to insults. She spoke with delicacy and flexibility. It was common for husbands to beat their wives. But as Monica was very calm and patient, she never got beaten up by her husband, who was also violent. As time passed, Patricio improved his temper with Monica's example, learning with her how to solve problems calmly and wisely. This did not happen overnight, but over the years, requiring a great deal of patience from Monica. She always prayed for Patricius's conversion, so that one day, he would be interested in being a practicing Catholic too. Patricio always respected faith of Monica and he had no problem with that.
Monica with the neighbors: Whenever the neighbors and wifes gathered to talk, they spoke ill of their husbands, as many of them were really authoritarian and mistreat them. But Monica never spoke ill of her husband to anyone, because speaking ill of others is a sin. He treated her badly, but she didn't spread it and she did not think about getting a divorce. Neighbors vented to her about their husbands' impatience and Monica advised them to settle everything calmly, not to argue at the wrong times, to talk at the right times, as she did at home. A saying goes: "The thicker a person is, the more gentle you must be with them." Some neighbors followed her advice and then came back to thank her saying that it had helped them a lot. Certainly, Monica suffered a lot with the abuse of her husband, but she sought strength with the help of God, prayer and the Word of God, because everything is possible for those who believe.
Birth of children: Monica and Patricius had 3 children: the eldest Augustine, Perpetua and Navidio. We know little about them. What we do know is that Patricio tried to make them be non-religious like him, but Monica wouldn't allow it. She always educated them in the faith and practice of the Word of God. Perpetua and Navidio had Monica's temperament and were of great faith and prayer like her. Navidio was a good man. He married and had two daughters who became religious. Perpetua got married and after becoming a widow, she became a religious. After Augustine's conversion, she was chosen superior in the convent that he founded in Hippo. But Augustine, the most famous song of Monica, followed his father's rebelliousness and temper. As a child, Augustine had neither faith nor interest in the things of God. At that time, Baptism was given to children aged 12 and older, as was First Communion. Monica let Navidio and Perpetua receive Baptism and the Eucharist, but since Augustine neither believed nor respected, she did not allow him to receive them at that age, only when he had devotion. And she started to pray always for the conversion of this son, which was what would give her the most work. She always tried to convince him to be interested in the things of God. For Monica, all that was left was patience, hope and prayer. And these were her weapons before the Lord in her daily prayers.
Husband's conversion: After praying for her husband's conversion for many years, Monica saw that Patricius finally became interested in becoming a Catholic after 19 years of marriage. She said he should be baptized. He accepted and received Baptism with devotion and conversion. By attending Holy Mass and listening to the Word of God, Patricius became another man. Monica was immensely happy, after waiting so many years. But that didn't last long, as Patricius fell ill and died months later. Monica suffered from it, but accepted it with resignation and as God's will. She prayed a lot for her husband's soul. At the time, Augustine was 17 years old and Monica was 40 years old.
Widow with holiness: Monica did not want to remarry. She went on to live as a widow dedicated to her children and to the Lord. She wore only simple dresses, fasted and helped the poor. She visited the sick in town. She went to church morning and evening with great devotion. She visited the Tabernacle with great devotion and love for Eucharist.
Augustine and his rebellions: Patricius and Monica decided that Augustine should study and pursue a career as a teacher, as he was very intelligent. They made many sacrifices to pay for their studies and their stays in other cities. At the age of 7, Augustine was very proud and a liar. At that time, teachers beat rebellious students with a stick in their hand and Augustine got beaten up several times. At 16, he went to study in Madaura. There, Augustine frequented bars, theaters and squares where he met all kinds of sins and attractions in the world. Upon learning this, Monica was extremely sad, because in addition to not being interested in God, Augustine was enjoying everything that was sin. Her mother's heart still had bad feelings. At age 17, he went to study in the country's capital, Carthage, a city full of atheist students and what Monica felt really happened: Augustine totally lost his faith by joining the Manichean sect that preached materialism and the liberalism of sin. She said that she wept more for her son's loss of faith than if he had lost his life, because he was at risk of condemning his soul by joining a sect that is dangerous and contrary to God's Word.
Augustine's son: Augustine had a relationship with a young woman and had a son with her: Adeodato, born in the year 372. Monica welcomed her grandson with affection, but Augustine didn't want to get married in church, just live together. In 374, having finished his studies, Augustine returned to Carthage with his wife and bay Adeodato. They went to live with their Romanian friend, as Augustine did not have much money or much success in the teaching profession. As time passed, Monica continued to pray that he would have faith and interest in God and get out of his sects and wrong ideas, otherwise he would die without repenting of the serious sins he had committed and would condemn himself eternally.
Dream of Augustine's conversion: One night, Monica dreamed that she was crying for Augustine, as she always did. In the dream, she saw herself on a wooden plank. A luminous young man, perhaps an Angel, said to him, “Why do you cry? Can't you see he's also where you are?” And when she turned around, Monica saw that Augustine was also on the same board as her. She woke up overjoyed and told Augustine about the dream. He was intrigued and she was more hopeful in her prayers. She so wanted her son's conversion that she asked sages and priests to talk to him and try to convince him to convert. But they couldn't. Monica once asked Bishop Antigonus to speak with Augustine. As she spoke to him, she shed abundant tears. The bishop told him: “Be still! Your child's heart is not yet ready, but God will determine the right time. Go and continue to pray that it is not possible to lose a child with so many tears!”
Escape of Augustine: Augustine's work as a teacher was not easy. To improve his situation, Augustine decided to move to Italy. He would go by ship. Monica said she would go with him, but Augustine didn't want to. It was the year of 383 and Augustine was already 29 years old. Arriving at the port, Augustine said that he was going to visit a friend first and asked Monica to go pray at a nearby church. And while Monica was praying in the Church of St. Cyprian, he left by ship without her. Monica cried a lot seeing her son leave and running the risk of not seeing him again. But shortly thereafter, she went after Augustine in Italy. She went on a ship with her son Navidio. Traveling by ship was dangerous, but Monica went with the courage. During the dangers of the sea, she instilled faith in sailors and crew. When they arrived in Italy, she did not find Augustine in Rome, as he had gone to Milan. Upon meeting Augustine in Milan, Monica was happy to learn that he had abandoned the Manichean sect but had not yet become a Catholic.
Meetings with St. Ambrose: In Milan, the bishop of that time was Saint Ambrose, a wise man who will play a fundamental role in Augustine's conversion. He gave great homilies and Monica began to attend his Holy Mass. As Ambrose was very influential in the city and region, Augustine sought to know his preaching and also liked it. This caused him a sympathy for Christianity. Augustine and Ambrose began to meet and talk. Monica was always in the front rows of the Masses of St. Ambrose and Augustine could not resist missing. Ambrose's homilies pleased him and clarified his questions and doubts about religions. Augustine was increasingly attracted to the Catholic faith, which in his view, was now correct and good. He always said he was looking for the truth and that he couldn't find it. But he was very tough and stubborn. This search for the truth lasted 2 years, from the age of 31 to 32, when she was living in Milan. At that time, Monica also lived there and helped the parish intensely and always prayed for her son.
Augustine's conversion: After reviewing his entire sinful life, Augustine wept and asked himself, “How long will I be crying: Tomorrow, tomorrow? Why shouldn't it be now? Why should the end of my iniquities not come at this time?” Suddenly, he heard the voice of a boy coming from the other house, repeating over and over: "Take it and read it, take it and read it." He thought it was a joke, but he had never heard such a song. Intrigued, he remembered that St. Anthony had been converted by randomly reading a passage from the Gospel that served him as a warning from Heaven. Augustine picked up the book of St. Paul's Letters, determined to read the first chapter he could find. He opened it and read in Romans 13, 13 which says: "Let us behave honestly, as in broad daylight: no orgies, no drunkenness. No dishonesty, no dissolution. No strife, no jealousy." That passage touched him deeply and Augustine decided to change it radically. It was the month of August 386 and he was 33 years old. He told Monica and she was immensely happy. She cried with joy. She waited nearly 30 years for this conversion.
Last months and days of Monica: The conversion of Augustine brought him closer to God and also his philosopher friends and teachers to faith. He was able to convert several of his friends to have faith in God. He went on a spiritual retreat with his philosopher friends while on vacation in the city of Cassiciaco, Italy, preparing to receive Baptism, along with his son Adeodato, now 17 years old, and his best friend Alypius and a few others. They lived with Monica in a farm of Cassiciaco for 6 months until March 387. There they stayed reading the Word of God, praying and preparing themselves with great faith and devotion. Monica accompanied them and participated in spiritual conversations about Sacred Scripture. She suggested reading Psalm 79 which says, "Lord, stretch out your hand over the man you have chosen, over the man you have fortified. Lord, O God of hosts. Show us your face serene and we shall be saved." These were the happiest days in Monica's life, because the more Augustine read the Bible, the more he loved God and began to have faith. Augustine and his friends received Baptism with great joy at Easter 387 in Milan, in the presence of Monica, at the hands of Bishop St. Ambrose.
Monica's Teachings: Few phrases of Saint Monica were noted. One of them was: "I do not believe that the soul feeds on things other than science and the understanding of things." That is, if we know God well, we will feed on Him. More knowledge of what is good. And also: “If you want good things and get them, you are happy. But if you want bad things, even though you have them, you are unhappy.” In other words, we are only happy with good things!
Ecstasy of Monica and Augustine: Augustine and Monica talked alone, leaning on a window overlooking the interior garden of the house. They talked about the future and eternal life in Heaven. At this moment, they were ecstatic and filled with joy.
Monica's serene death: Monica and Augustine decided to return to Africa. They went to the port of Ostia, Italy, where they would embark. In the end, Monica said: “My son, as for me, nothing gives me pleasure in this life. I don't know what I'm still doing here, or why I'm still here, the hopes of this world already fading. For one reason, I wanted to prolong my life a little longer: to see you as a Catholic before she died. God has given me this grace superabundantly, for I see that you already despise earthly happiness in order to serve the Lord. So what am I doing here?” A few days later, Monica caught a strong and severe fever that forced her to stay in bed. Augustine, Navídio and Adeodato took care of her, saying that she would get better and go back to Africa. But she sensed that she would die there in Italy and said: “Bury this body anywhere and don't worry about it. I just ask you to remember me before the Altar of the Lord in your prayers, wherever you are.” Monica died in peace and serenity 9 days later at 56 years of age in the year 387. Everyone in the house was very sad and some neighbors noticed. They entered the house and prayed some Psalms. Afterwards, Monica was buried right there, in Italy. Augustine managed not to cry much that day or in the following days, but afterwards, he could not contain his tears. He cried a lot after the death of such a kind mother.
Augustine's sanctification: Shortly thereafter, Augustine's son, Adeodato, died at just 18 years of age. After also losing his wife, Augustine became a great priest and then was elected bishop, today Saint Augustine, one of the greatest saints and sages of the Church and who led many multitudes to God with his writings. He wrote about his dear mother: “Woman of strong faith, firm seriousness, christian piety and motherly charity.”
